Wow Factor? Yes!
Basement design can often be a difficult process. There are many objections to creating a great renovation space; posts, beams, plumbing, furnaces and a myriad of immovable objects can make even the best designers scratch their heads. And then sometimes; you just nail it. We brought all of our design and construction knowledge together with our wonderful customers wished, needs and ideas to create this beautiful basement. Winner of both our local and national home builder associations design and renovation awards in 2017.
In The Beginning
Many of our projects start this way. Large empty spaces with no features and no future. But we've done this before, we know what works and what doesn't. Lot's of space is not always an advantage; often it makes it harder to create the space we are trying to achieve. Our customer approached us more with high level concepts than specific ideas on this one. Create a great family space; multi-tasking, open and engaging yet some noise control for the musicians in the family. It needed to be suitable for the whole family and able to grow as they did.
Seems Easy Enough
We had a lot of space to work with, but we also seemed to keep bumping into to those nasty objections every time we turned around. Unruly plumbing, posts, ducts, etc. Of course, posts. How to create spaces for play and games, entertainment, refreshments, storage, media and music all in one. Where do you start? Well your start at the beginning. You rely on your experience, expertise and your process to get you where you need to be. We always start at the beginning with what the house is going to give us and work it, and work it, and work it.
Can You See It?
With input from our construction experts we were able to overcome some of our more egregious objections to a layout we knew was the right way to go. We could reconfigure a particularly intrusive main waste pipe heading to the septic and designed a code required access to clean-outs without ruining the wow factor of a great design. Our eureka moment so to speak. This is really starting to come together.
The Look
Once our design team had all the architecture and infrastructure taken care of we moved on to the look and feel. Here is where are homeowner stepped up. When we have an engaged customer we can take things to the next level. Colours, finishes and materials more easily come together when everyone involved work as team. It is a thing of beauty - the actual process and the product.
Nailed It!
When we have completed our full design process our homeowners and our design team have the confidence to let it go through to our skilled construction team. Putting everything together can be a challenge but it is so worth the hard work. Did we get it right this time....we think so. Contemporary, sleek, stylish, classy. You might think you are at one of Ottawa's newest hotspots....
Let's Start Building
The fun part of the design work is done. And we think we have a real winner with this one. But the he design team still has a lot of work to do to get our renovation team ready to build this basement. Detail drawings, specifications, the scope of work, the material and finish selections all have to be developed and presented to the Just Basements build team. Armed with all the information we need to create a great basement renovation experience for our customers we are good to go
If You Build It....
Our homeowners and our design team have done a tremendous job. They've put together a great basement design and we are ready to start the renovation. A renovation in your home is never easy, but we do everything we can during the build to reduce the stress of a major renovation project. After working closely with us; our fantastic homeowners had the confidence in us that we could do the job. Here we are......
Almost There
Our renovation team is well on it's way to creating our customers dream basement. Things are really starting to come together. It helps to have such a great construction crew. When we can arm them with a great design they can create the most impressive living spaces in Ottawa, heck Canada. Great work guys! Our Homeowners can't wait to see the result, and neither can we.
